We Need It Now!
The Keystone XL Pipeline is a state-of-the-art energy infrastructure project that enjoys broad, bipartisan, bicameral support in the United States Congress. In addition, 60% of the American public backs this jobs initiative.
Labor and industry stand together on this project, as well. They understand the fact that, for America’s unemployed workers, Keystone XL isn’t just a pipeline - it’s a lifeline.
Jobs
Construction of the Keystone XL pipeline will create more than 20,000 direct jobs in the United States. Additionally, the economic impact of giving the United States access to a more reliable source of energy from Canada could generate increased business activity here that would support between 250,000 and 550,000 indirect jobs, according to an economic analysis by the Perryman Group.
TransCanada, the owner of the pipeline, has signed a Project Labor Agreement - or PLA - with America’s Building Trades Unions. The PLA will ensure that these jobs will have a living wage, worker protections and benefits for the communities along the route. In a press statement announcing the PLA, William Hite, General President of the United Association of Journeymen and Apprentices of the Plumbing and Pipefitting Industry of the United States and Canada, AFL-CIO, said, “It’s the vision and competence of TransCanada in the U.S.that provides our skilled local workforce with the means to perform the trade they have been taught while contributing to their communities.”
