Energy Security

According to U.S. Department of Energy estimates, oil and natural gas provide our country with two thirds of its energy supply today and account for 97% of the fuel used for our transportation needs alone.  Globally, demand for petroleum base fuels - particularly natural gas - will increase significantly by 2035, as projected in the 2011 Energy Outlook of the World Energy Organization.  In its Annual Energy Outlook report, the Energy Information Administration points out the direct relationship between developing domestic resources and decreasing demands on imported fuels.  Key to our future energy independence will be developing new sources such as the Marcellus shale and building new infrastructure such as the Keystone XL pipeline.
