Safety & Environment

The men and women who work in the oil and natural gas industry are the most highly skilled, extensively trained, safest and environmentally responsible workers in the world.  Each year, building trades unions spend over $800 million on Apprenticeship and Certification programs - all of it from private funding.  As a result of this rigorous training, construction related deaths and injuries in the U.S. have fallen 33% and 67%, respectively, between 1992 and 2008, according to a study by the Center for Construction Research and Training.  Through a code of strict, voluntary Environmental Principles, the member companies of the American Petroleum Institute adhere to a standard that is unsurpassed by any other nation.  In addition to these principles, the U.S. oil and natural gas industry has demonstrated its commitment by investing more than $200 billion in programs to improve the environmental performance of its products, facilities and operations since 1990.
